A Winchester Christmas
A Winchester Christmas is our first professional CD release and was recorded during 2008 in the outskirts of the city, in the historic church of St Cross - where we have celebrated the Advent season for over 20 years.

As with our sought-after live performances, music for our first CD has been carefully selected to take listeners on a journey of emotional and musical discovery.

The Christmas story unfolds through well-known and less familiar compositions from the pens of Berlioz, Bruckner, Howells and Rachmaninov; works by living composers including Sir John Tavener, Andrew Simpson and the American composers Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre; and favourite carols without which no traditional celebration would be complete. A complete list of the tracks can be found below. You can click on "PREVIEW" to listen to short extracts.

A Winchester Christmas features traditional favourites alongside music by a number of living musicians including Eric Whitacre, one of America's foremost composers.  His message of congratulation on the production of 'an excellent CD' was echoed by London-based Andrew Simpson who praised the high quality of the recording and told the choir's musical director, Charles Stewart, that he 'couldn't fault' Southern Voices' interpretation of his music.
