Southern Voices was founded in autumn 1984 and our first concert was in St Peter’s Church, Winchester in November that year.

We celebrated our 25th birthday in grand style in Winchester Cathedral, with a programme that included two 19th century settings of Ave Maria, by Mendelssohn and Brahms, a 16th century motet by Thomas Tallis for 40-part choir, and three contemporary pieces by the American composer Eric Whitacre.

In addition, we performed Bach’s 8-part motet Singet dem Herrn and A.M.D.G. by Benjamin Britten.

We were joined in our brithday celebration by an enthusiastic audience, who we hope were inspired by this collection of choral masterpieces.
