Howells: Requiem
Der geist hilft & Der Gerechte kommt um
Schaffe in mir Gott
When David heard

Armistice eve may seem an unusual time to stage a concert but when the music was specially chosen to honour the fallen and performed by Southern Voices in the Quire of Winchester Cathedral, a fitting and memorable tribute was assured.

Musical director Charles Stewart selected music by English, American and German composers for the performance which culminated in the hauntingly beautiful Requiem by Herbert Howells. Seldom-heard motets by Bach and Brahms formed the first part of the programme, together with music by William Byrd and contemporary American composer Eric Whitacre.

Every piece in this concert was a gem and the music tugged at the heartstrings of singers and audience alike, making it an extremely moving occasion. Further details of the programme can be found here
